Choosing the Right Bunk Bed

Bunk beds are a practical way to provide two or more sleeping spaces without using the floor area required for separate beds. The right design depends on the size and layout of the bedroom, the mattress sizes you need and whether features such as storage, easier access or an additional sleeping space are important.

Our bunk beds are designed and made to order in Melbourne, with options ranging from compact lower-height designs through to traditional full-height bunks, King Single configurations and Single-over-Double designs.

Low Height Bunk Beds

For rooms where you would prefer the upper sleeping position closer to the floor, our Low Height Bunk Beds provide two full-size sleeping positions in a lower, more compact design.

There are several configurations to choose from. Our compact front-ladder model minimises the overall footprint, while other designs add features such as an integrated bookshelf or Easy Climb Steps with drawers underneath. This lets you balance floor space, access and storage to suit the room.

Bunk Beds with Storage

Storage can be particularly valuable in a shared bedroom, which is why several of our bunk beds incorporate it directly into the design.

Our storage bunk beds make use of areas around the beds for integrated bookshelves and open shelving, providing useful space for books and everyday belongings without needing additional freestanding furniture. Different models are available in Standard Single and King Single configurations.

Single-over-Double Bunk Beds

A Single-over-Double bunk bed combines a Standard Single upper bed with a larger Double bed below. It provides a different alternative to a conventional two-single bunk and can also provide three sleeping positions within one bunk-bed footprint.

Our Single-over-Double design incorporates storage into the bunk and can also be ordered with an optional trundle underneath when an additional occasional sleeping space is required.

Bunk Beds for Three Children

When three regular sleeping positions are required, our Triple Bunk Beds provide another space-saving solution.

Rather than stacking three beds directly one above another, our Triple Inline and Triple Transverse designs offset the sleeping positions. This creates more usable sitting and head space around the beds while still providing three full-size sleeping positions.

The different layouts also give you more flexibility to choose a design that works with the shape and available wall space of the bedroom.

Standard Single or King Single Bunk Beds?

Many of our bunk beds are available for either Standard Single or King Single mattresses. Standard Single helps keep the overall footprint more compact, while King Single provides additional width and length where the room allows.

Some designs also allow different bed-size combinations, while our Single-over-Double bunk provides a Standard Single upper bed with a Double lower bed. Check the individual product options for the mattress sizes available with each design.

Front Ladder, Bookshelf or Easy Climb Steps?

How the upper bed is accessed can make a significant difference to both the footprint and functionality of a bunk bed.

A front ladder generally provides the most compact arrangement. Other designs integrate the ladder into an end bookshelf, combining access with useful open storage. Our Easy Climb Steps provide wider individual steps with storage drawers underneath, although the staircase requires more floor space than a compact ladder.

The best arrangement depends on the available space and which features are most useful in the bedroom.

Need an Extra Bed?

Selected bunk beds can be ordered with a trundle bed underneath, providing an additional sleeping position that can be stored away when it is not required.

This can be particularly useful when you want the everyday advantages of a bunk bed while retaining the flexibility of another bed when needed. Trundle availability varies between models, so check the options shown with each bunk bed.

Our bunk beds are made to order in Melbourne rather than supplied as fixed, mass-produced configurations.

Depending on the design, you can choose from different mattress sizes, colour combinations, left- or right-hand arrangements, ladder or step configurations, storage and additional sleeping options. The Options and Styles counts shown with each product provide a quick indication of how many choices are available for that particular design.
