Cubby House Loft Beds
The original Cubby House design combines a generous open cubby area with a clever integrated bookshelf and end ladder.
Raising the bed creates much more than somewhere to sleep. The open area underneath becomes a space children can make their own — somewhere to play, read, relax or retreat with favourite toys and books.
Add a beanbag and favourite books for a cosy reading corner, create a home for toys and imaginative play, or simply let children turn the space into a cubby of their own. The sleeping platform is deliberately higher than our Low Height Loft Beds for a more useful area below, but lower than a typical full-height loft.
Raising the bed creates something children often value just as much as the sleeping space itself — a little area they can call their own. A beanbag and favourite books can create a reading nook; toys and games can turn it into a play area; cushions can make it a quiet place to relax.
Unlike our higher loft beds, the Cubby House range is not designed around fitting a conventional study desk underneath. Instead, the height has been chosen to create a useful play and relaxation area without raising the sleeping platform unnecessarily high.
The outside-facing bookcase and the end ladder have been designed together as part of the bed itself, providing substantial storage without unnecessarily duplicating panels or adding another piece of furniture to the room.
The bookshelf gives children easy room-side access to books and display items, while components such as the side of the bookcase also form part of the ladder and bed structure. It is practical design thinking that makes better use of the same footprint.
The Cubby House design includes a separate open shelf unit underneath the bed, so children have storage inside their own space as well as the outside-facing bookshelf. It is ideal for books, toys, games, baskets and the possessions they want close at hand.
This interior shelving helps the cubby feel useful as well as imaginative. It creates a natural place to keep favourite things organised without taking away from the open, flexible feel of the play and relaxation area.

This was the original Cubby House Loft Bed. The goal was to create more useful space underneath a loft bed without simply raising the mattress to the maximum height of a conventional high loft.
The resulting middle-height design created enough room underneath for children to genuinely use it as a cubby, play area, reading nook or relaxation space. It combined ideas we had already developed successfully elsewhere in the range — particularly the integrated bookshelf and built-in end ladder — with shelving accessible from inside the cubby area.
This original design subsequently led to two further versions: Easy Climb Steps for families preferring step access, and a Front Ladder model for customers wanting a more compact overall footprint.
