Cubby House Loft Beds

A Loft Bed Above. Their Own Little World Underneath.

The most compact Cubby House layout, using a front ladder to reduce overall length while adding shelving at both ends of the cubby space.

Our Cubby House Loft Bed combines sleep, storage, and play in one clever design. Based on our popular Cubby House loft Bed with open shelves, this compact version features a front-facing ladder and an extra set of under-bed shelves, giving you even more practical storage without taking up extra floor space.

Add a small beanbag, cushions, favourite books, toys or games and let children make the space their own. It is deliberately higher than our Low Height Loft Beds for a more useful area below, but lower than a typical full-height loft.

  • Most compact overall design in the Cubby House Loft Bed family.
  • Front ladder access with practical ladder treads.
  • More usable play and relaxation space underneath than the Low Height Loft range.
  • Deliberately lower than a conventional full-height loft bed.
  • Useful cubby, reading and play space beneath the bed.
  • Two open shelf units underneath serving the cubby area — one at each end.
  • Each shelf unit has two adjustable shelves plus the bottom.
  • Generous 1100mm under-bed clearance.
  • Full guard rail around the entire loft bed for added safety and peace of mind.
  • Shelving for books, toys, games, baskets and favourite belongings.
  • No outside-facing bookshelf structure needed at the end of the bed.
  • Available in Standard Single or King Single sleeping sizes.
  • Available in left- or right-hand configurations to suit your room layout.
  • Choice of contemporary colour combinations.
  • Strong melamine construction with a fully supported mattress base.
  • Supplied flat packed with detailed assembly instructions.
  • Refer to the Specifications tab for complete dimensions.

Children do not necessarily need a huge area to create somewhere that feels like their own. A small beanbag or cushions, favourite books, toys and imagination can turn the space beneath the loft into a reading nook, play area, quiet retreat or proper little cubby.

The shelving at both ends is especially useful because toys and books can stay within easy reach without needing separate storage furniture inside the cubby. The Cubby House range is not designed around fitting a conventional study desk underneath; the space has deliberately been created for play, reading and relaxation instead.

The original Cubby House design places its ladder and integrated bookshelf at the end of the bed. Moving the ladder to the front shortens the overall bed and makes this model easier to accommodate where available wall length is limited.

The front ladder is not simply a visual choice. It is what allows this design to become the most compact Cubby House model, with a distinctly different room layout and less external length than its end-access siblings.

Like the other Cubby House models, this bed includes an open shelf unit underneath at one end. It also gains an additional shelf unit behind the front ladder at the other end. This second unit faces inward beneath the bed rather than outward into the bedroom.

The result is storage at both ends of a child’s cubby area for books, toys, games, baskets, soft toys and the things they like to keep in their own space. The extra shelving occupies some of the under-bed area, which is the practical trade-off for achieving the shorter overall footprint.

The Front Ladder model takes up less space in the bedroom overall while making more intensive use of the space underneath the bed. Compared with its siblings, it has less external length and slightly less completely open cubby floor area, but more internal shelving.

This is the distinction that helps families choose: if maximum open play space is the priority, one of the longer models may suit better. If wall length is limited and plenty of shelving inside the cubby matters most, this compact layout may be the better fit.

✓ Did you know?

There are three Cubby House Loft Bed designs sharing the same idea: a loft bed above and a child’s own play and relaxation space underneath. The main differences are bed access, storage and overall footprint.

Each model creates the same imaginative cubby experience, but gives families a different way to balance bookshelf storage, step access and the room space available. This front-ladder model is the compact choice for smaller rooms and extra internal shelving.

Low Height Spacesaver Loft Beds have a lower sleeping position with storage and a movable activity or study desk that becomes increasingly useful as a child grows.

Cubby House Loft Beds create more useful space underneath for play, reading, relaxing and a child’s own cubby area.

High Loft Beds provide greater under-bed clearance designed around a proper desk, study or work area.

These ranges are not simply low, medium and high versions of the same bed. Their different heights enable different ways of using the room.

Every Fitting Furniture bed is manufactured to order in Melbourne, so you can choose the sleeping size, orientation and colour combination that best suit your child and your room rather than settling for a standard warehouse-stock configuration.

You can choose:

  • Standard Single or King Single sleeping sizes.
  • A left- or right-hand configuration to suit your room layout.
  • Your preferred colour combination.

This Front Ladder model is itself a room-layout solution, developed to make the Cubby House concept work where the longer versions may not fit as comfortably.

Available in a choice of contemporary colour combinations, you can preview your preferred finish by selecting your options on the product page before placing your order.

How This Design Came About

After developing the original Cubby House Loft Bed, some families liked the idea of a raised sleeping area and play space underneath but needed something that occupied less overall wall length.

The solution was to rethink where the ladder belonged. Instead of placing the access structure at the end, we moved the ladder to the front. This reduced the overall footprint and created the most compact model in the Cubby House family.

The new arrangement also created an opportunity for a second inward-facing shelf unit behind the ladder, giving children storage at both ends of their cubby. The result is less space taken up by the bed in the room, with cleverer use of the space inside it.

  • When choosing between Cubby House models, compare your available wall length, preferred ladder position and desired amount of completely open cubby space. Check the Specifications tab and your room dimensions before ordering.
  • Confirm the required left- or right-hand configuration before ordering so the front ladder suits your bedroom layout.
